AIDS and Children (cont.)

roaidshome8-4children200.jpgMission Without Borders Romania supports a placement center in Caras Severin where children suffering from AIDS in different stages reside. All of them have been rejected by their families and friends.  The rejection produces a great deal of anger in these children.  Most often the anger is expressed when they have nothing to do. Conflicts arise among themselves or between them and the educators.  This center is a refuge for them, a place where they receive needed medical treatment. It’s a place where they are treated with love and without discrimination.  At the center there are various activities that help the children make important progress in improving their behavior, attitude and social skills. One such activity, supported by Mission Without Borders Romania, was a trip to a local museum, followed by a visit to a park at the invitation of MWB’s ES coordinator who enjoys organizing different outdoor activities at the center.

“Working with these children is very difficult and a sensitive thing. Some of them are aware of the disease they suffer from and they know that it is due to this illness that they can not attend a normal school. Through the MWB Emotional Support classes for this home we have tried to help these children understand that God loves them, that they are very important to Him. We are very happy every time we see a change in the children’s way of thinking and even in their attitude. Unfortunately, in Romania the children infected with AIDS are totally rejected by society, they can not even attend normal school and they are forced into isolation”, said Daciana Bilan, MWB ES Cluster 8 Coordinator.
