This month the Sarny Soup Kitchen, part of MWB's community center in Sarny, Ukraine, is celebrating its 10th anniversary. Since 2006, nearly 2,000 isolated older people and individuals with disabilities have received support from our 'ministry on wheels'.

MWB's fantastic team of volunteers travel to the homes of those who are unable to leave the house due to age or mobility issues, and provide a hot lunch of soup and bread five days a week. The soup kitchen team also provide vital human contact, giving beneficiaries both emotional and spiritual support. When needed, the team make arrangements for medical assistance and end of life care.

The Sarny Soup Kitchen's coordinator, Volodymyr Zhygula, explains why the project is much more than simply providing food:

"We strive to deliver physical bread as well as spiritual food. Those we support often require counseling and spiritual support. Many of them call for me when they feel death is approaching - they want me to read Scripture, hear their confessions and pray for them."

The Sarny Soup Kitchen is part of MWB's Sarny Center which provides a range of community services, including hosting vocational training courses for young people and offering free dental care to the community.
